Stock Controller

Position Overview:

The Stock Controller is responsible to supervise the replenishment of hotel operational stock and supplies to ensure the availability of par levels in line with operational requirements in accordance with stock control principles; as well as the accurate recording of inventory and stock management systems according to company policy and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• To maintain par levels of stock in all storerooms 

• Check and maintain all areas of storage for cleanliness and proper stock storage 

• Place orders in line with operational requirements, economical order quantities, authorisation and par levels 

• Check all deliveries against the order and document any necessary changes with respect to returns, price deviations, over/under deliveries 

• Conduct quality checks of stock received and provide feedback to the relevant HOD / Hotel Accountant on all problems encountered with suppliers around the quality of products supplied 

• Submit all documents raised to the Hotel Accountant for review and authorisation and maintain accurate records of all transactions and transfers in / out for various outlets 

• Supervise storage and rotation of stock (FIFO) 

• Conduct daily inspections and checks including records of freezer temperatures for accuracy, completeness 

• Report on any deviations from the expected temperatures; log and follow-up on calls where maintenance may need to repair a fridge / freezer 

• Conduct daily spot checks on stock items and investigate any discrepancies to system figures 

• Conduct walkabouts and monitor hygiene audits in back of house operational areas to check for a compliance to H&S Standards 

• Participate in all mandatory stock takes according to procedures, and investigate variances with explanations to the HOD/Hotel Accountant / Finance Manager 

• Report weekly on the running of the inventory group for specific areas / outlets (including problems encountered / stock shortages) 

• Document any variances with regards to returns, price deviations, over/under deliveries and communicate these to the relevant outlet managers for resolution and feedback

Requirements:

• Matric (Grade 12).

• Basic mathematic skills

• Sound knowledge on the procedures with stock

• Excellent communication skills in English Language – Verbal and Written to be able to communicate with the guests, staff and management

• Physically fit to walk and stand for long hours and to carry and lift equipment up to 20kg

• Experience with stock control/Sound food and beverage knowledge and have experience within the hospitality industry for no less than 4 years

• Competent with all computer programs used (will be advantageous) 

• A positive, flexible attitude to work is essential, as is the ability to work well under pressure in order to meet the demand of the guests. 

• Must be able to work weekends and have own reliable vehicle and licence
