Bully Trees
Genus Sideroxylon
Bully trees, from the genus Sideroxylon in the Sapotaceae family, are native to tropical and subtropical regions, especially in the Americas and the Caribbean. Known for their incredibly hard wood, often called ironwood, these trees are medium to large in size with simple, evergreen leaves. Their small flowers give way to fleshy berries, which can sometimes be eaten and help with seed dispersal by attracting wildlife. Bully trees are resilient, often thriving in dry or saline environments. While their wood is highly valued for its strength, some species face threats from habitat loss, making conservation efforts important.
