Calla Lily

Zantedeschia Aethiopica

The Calla Lily (Zantedeschia aethiopica), though not a true lily, is a perennial plant native to southern Africa, known for its elegant, trumpet-shaped white spathes that surround a central yellow spadix. Often found in wet or marshy environments, this plant thrives in moist, well-drained soils and can grow up to 3 feet tall, with large arrow-shaped green leaves. Calla Lilies prefer full sun but can tolerate partial shade, especially in warmer climates. They bloom primarily in late spring to early summer, although in milder regions, they may flower almost year-round. Popular in ornamental gardening and floral arrangements, the Calla Lily is also a symbol of purity and is commonly used in religious ceremonies. However, due to its toxicity when ingested, caution is advised when growing it around pets or children.
