Cape Silver Tree

Leucadendron Argenteum

The Cape Silver Tree (Leucadendron argenteum) is an eye-catching, evergreen tree native to the fynbos region of South Africa, particularly around the Cape Peninsula. Part of the Proteaceae family, it is easily recognized by its silvery, silky leaves that shimmer in the sunlight, giving the tree its distinctive appearance. This medium to large tree can grow up to 40 feet tall and thrives in well-drained, acidic soils with plenty of sunlight. The Cape Silver Tree is adapted to the Mediterranean climate, with dry summers and wet winters, and is drought-tolerant once established. However, it is sensitive to frost and does not thrive in extreme cold. Due to habitat loss and invasive species, it is considered vulnerable in the wild. Its striking beauty and rarity make it a prized ornamental tree, though it requires careful maintenance.
