Next to the storm water pond, we have established 2 urban bee hives which house around 60.000 Cape Honey Bees who enjoy the developed wetlands, increasing the beauty and plant life through pollination. The beehives have also begun to produce their own honey to be found in the restaurant and deli. Furthermore, Hotel Verde works with a non-profit organisation called “Street is not my reality”, which helps homeless people come off the streets, teaches them beekeeping, and gives them jobs. They collect the honey from the bees at the hotel, which the hotel pays for and sells in the deli and provides during breakfast.
