Mosaic Wall

The mural at Hotel Verde is a remarkable mosaic installation standing 16 metres high and 4 metres wide. Led by professional mosaic artist Jo de Freitas, the project took two months to complete with a dedicated team of five. To accommodate the scale of the artwork, the studio was reconfigured with four long trestle tables, allowing the team to work on 1-metre mosaic strips at a time.

Each strip, covering 4 square metres, was meticulously assembled, with more than 30 strips produced to complete the mural. Tens of thousands of tiles were individually cut by hand and glued onto mesh, resulting in a technically impressive and visually striking piece.

The mosaic itself carries deeper symbolic meaning. Through soil and stones, water droplets, the sun, and leaves floating in the wind, the artwork represents the four natural elements: earth, wind, sun, and water. These elements reflect the sustainability-driven foundations of Hotel Verde and the systems that bring its eco-conscious vision to life, including geothermal energy, wind turbines, solar power, and a grey-water recycling plant.
