Rainwater Harvesting
The rainwater from approximately three-quarters of the roof is captured and passed through a mechanical Wisy filter before being channelled to an impressive 40,000-litre stainless steel tank in the basement of the building. The basement extends below the water table, so all water that would otherwise want to migrate into the basement is filtered and collected in sumps before it is also pumped into the 40,000-litre tank. This is normal practice, but normally, this water would be pumped away into stormwater and be wasted.
The water from the tank is then used for outdoor uses such as irrigation, car washing and the cleaning of hardscapes. It is also linked to the greywater reticulation system so that rainwater can be used to flush the toilets in the future if desired or if the greywater recycling plant must be shut down for maintenance.
Drip irrigation systems are installed. This system is fed from the rainwater harvesting tank.
